The first of the eight rounds of the 2018 Italian ACI Karting Championship took place at the Siena Circuit with good participation, especially in the 60 Mini, which saw 80 drivers at the start. The Rok Trophy with Junior and Senior categories also responded well. In this first event of the year with the new format, the Easykart and Rotax Brand Trophies debuted, along with the Naskart single-make series valid for the namesake Trophy. In the next event at La Conca on May 27, the KZ2, KZ3, and Iame X30 Trophy will take to the track, along with Rotax and Naskart again.
The 60 Mini, after a series of very competitive qualifying heats, completed the first event of the season with a victory in Race-1 by Polish driver Karol Pasiewicz (Energy-Tm), who had a great final duel with Norwegian Martinius Stenshorme (Paroli-Tm), while Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Energy-Tm) secured the third step of the podium. In Race-2, it was Stenshorme who triumphed over Brando Badoer (Parolin-Tm), who had finished sixth in the first final. Third place went to Englishman Coskun Irfano, also on Parolin-Tm.
In the OK-Junior, Tommaso Chiappini (Formula K-Tm) achieved a clean sweep of victories with wins in both Race-1 and Race-2. In the first final, Chiappini led Mattia Ingolfo (KR-Iame) and Leonardo Fornaroli (KR-Iame), while in the second final, Chiappini inherited the victory due to a penalty given to Ingolfo, who had crossed the finish line first. In the standings, Lorenzo Patrese (KR-Iame), son of Riccardo Patrese, placed behind Chiappini, while Ingolfo slipped to third place.
Among the Brand Trophies included in this first event, the Rok Trophy featured two strong line-ups in both the Junior and Senior categories. In the Junior first final, Matheus Morgato Alvarenga (Parolin-Vortex) won, followed by Federico Cecchi and Raffaele Gulizia, both on Tony Kart-Vortex. In the second final, it was American Ugo Ugochukwu (Tony Kart-Vortex) who took the top step, thanks also to a penalty given to Cecchi, who had crossed the finish line first. The other two podium positions went to Morgato and Gulizia.
In the Senior Rok, Pietro Delli Guanti (Exprit-Vortex) achieved a great success in the first of the two finals, ahead of Polish driver Maciej Szyszko (Kosmic-Vortex) and Cristian Comanducci (Tony Kart-Vortex), who inherited third place due to a penalty given to another Polish driver, Kacper Szczurek (Kosmic-Vortex). In the second final, Maciej Szyszko won the race ahead of his brother Szymon, with Anderson Sella (Tony Kart-Vortex) in third place, also benefiting from another penalty to Szczurek, who dropped from second to ninth.
In the Easykart Trophy, Francesco Serafini dominated both finals, finishing both races ahead of Alfonso D’Eugenio and Rosolino Caralla, all on Birel-Bmb.
Davide Vuano (Praga-Rotax) claimed victory in the Rotax Trophy, competing in the Senior category, achieving a clean sweep in both Finals. In the Rotax Junior standings, the victories in the two races went to Vincenzo Scarpetta (Parolin-Tm) and Emma Segantini (Intrepid-Tm), respectively.
In the Naskart Trophy, characterized by Righetti Ridolfi chassis and Modena Engines with gear shifting, both victories in the two finals went to Moreno Di Silvestre. In Race-1, Lapo Nencetti crossed the finish line first, but due to a 10-second penalty for a false start, he was classified third, also behind Alessandro Brigatti, who thus took the second step of the podium in the first final. In Race-2, due to another false start, Nencetti lost the victory, which again went to Di Silvestre, with Alessio Bacci in second place and Christan Arfè in third. Here, Nencetti placed fifth.
Next event on May 25-27, 2018, at the International Circuit La Conca, Muro Leccese (Lecce), with the KZ2, KZ3, Iame X30, Rotax, and Naskart categories.
