Castelnuovo Berardenga (Siena), September 13, 2020. Intense racing weekend at the Siena Circuit for the third round of the ACI Karting Italian Championship, marked by strong competition on the final day that saw the finalists of the 233 drivers registered for the event take to the track, which also crowned the first Italian champions of the season.
The three categories where the Tricolor titles were awarded were those of the KZN for the single round of the Junior, Under and Over classes. This Siena event also represented the third round of the two IAME X30 Junior and X30 Senior categories, and the first round for the two Rok Junior and Senior categories. Also racing were the two Mini Rok and Super Rok for the Rok Cup Italia.
Edoardo Tolfo Italian Champion in KZN Junior.
In KZN Junior it was Vicenza’s Edoardo Tolfo (FD Motors/Praga-TM) who won the final race and therefore the Italian title of the category reserved for drivers aged 15 to 25. Tolfo, after winning Saturday’s qualifying heats, left his most accredited rival, Matteo Del Vecchio (Renda Motorsport/BirelART-Vortex), only the success in qualifying practice and in the Prefinal. In the Final instead Tolfo soon took the lead without ever giving up the head of the race, also setting the fastest lap. Del Vecchio finished close behind in second place, while third place on the podium was earned by Mattia Giannini (Oracle/Maranello-TM) completing a great comeback.
KZN Junior final classification: 1. Tolfo; 2. Del Vecchio; 3. Giannini; 4. Pastorino; 5. Lucini.
In KZN Under Alessandro Cavina dominates.
The KZN Under was dominated by Bologna’s Alessandro Cavina (Parolin-TM), a success achieved from the qualifying heats and then confirmed in the Prefinal and Final. In second place finished an excellent Nicola Gnudi (Maranello/Maranello-TM), coming back in the heats and Prefinal, ahead of an equally good Riccardo Nalon (ErreEsse/Parolin-TM) who produced an excellent race. Special mention for Emanuele Simonetti (Sodikart-TM) who took pole position but was unlucky in the heats and Prefinal, then came back 24 positions finishing in the top-ten.
KZN Under final classification: 1. Cavina; 2. Gnudi; 3. Nalon; 4. Cittadini; 5. Dondi.
Andrea Spagni surprises everyone in KZN Over.
In KZN Over it was finally Modena’s Andrea Spagni (Modena Kart/BirelART-TM) who prevailed, becoming Italian Champion for the second time. Spagni was able to use his experience right in the final, where he managed to jump immediately into the lead and lead to the finish line, chased by the other two-time Italian champion Sauro Cesetti (Maranello/Maranello-TM) in a sprint lost by only 54 thousandths of a second. Claudio Tempesti (Red Race/Praga-TM), winner of the heats, placed a good third on the podium. Sebastiano De Matteo (Sodikart-TM) winner of the Prefinal, was forced to retire in the Final. KZN Over final classification: 1. Spagni; 2. Cesetti; 3. Tempesti; 4. Profico; 5. Tonoli.
Al Dhaheri and Scognamiglio the two winners of IAME X30 Junior.
In the first of the two X30 Junior finals, it was UAE driver Rashid Al Dhaheri (Ippoliti/Parolin-Iame) who won the race after prevailing in practice and also in the heats. In Race1 behind Al Dhaeri finished an excellent Rocco Mazzola (PRK/Tony Kart-Iame) coming back from the beginning of the weekend for not being able to take part in qualifying practice. Third finished Matteo Luvisi (Newman Motorsport/Tony Kart-Iame), while championship leader Manuel Scognamiglio (Gamoto/Tony Kart-Iame) placed eighth coming back after a spin following contact. Scognamiglio himself was the protagonist in Race2 thanks to the inverted grid, he started in the lead and finished with victory chased by Al Dhaheri coming back, while Mazzola climbed on the podium again with third place.
In IAME X30 Senior the duel between Comanducci and Carenini continues.
Victory by a thousandth of a second for championship leader Cristian Comanducci (PRK/Tony Kart-Iame) of IAME X30 Senior, winner of the heats and author of a great performance in Race1, threatened right to the finish line by Danny Carenini (Autoeuropeo/Tony Kart-Iame), second by 46 thousandths. Third place for Carlo Aldera (TBKart/TBKart-Iame), with Vittorio Maria Russo (Team Driver/KR-Iame) fourth and Erika Lavazza (PKT/Kosmic-Iame) fifth. In Race2 Carenini managed to recover thanks to the inverted grid to achieve success, ahead of Mattia Ingolfo (Team Driver/KR-Iame) and Alessandro Lizio (T Motorsport/Tony Kart-Iame). Comanducci was forced to retire instead in the final part at the restart after a slow regime.
Riccardo Iannello above all in Rok Junior.
In the first round of Rok Junior, Riccardo Iannello (KGT/Tony Kart-Vortex) dominates the scene winning everything, from qualifying practice to the heats and both Finals. In Race1 Iannello preceded Davide Larini (Tony Kart-Vortex) who inherited the position thanks to penalties inflicted on the two Zanchi Motorsport drivers, Antonio Pio Abbate and Andrea Ladina, who finished third and fourth respectively. In Race2 Iannello prevailed again recovering from eighth position due to the inverted grid, winning over Abbate and Leonardo Megna (Zanchi/Tony Kart-Vortex). In the championship Iannello leads with 99 points, Abbate is second with 69.
Molinari and Gaglianò conquer the two Rok Senior finals.
In Rok Senior the honors go to Giorgio Molinari (Exprit-Vortex) and Giuseppe Gaglianò (New Technology/KR-Vortex), respective winners of the two finals. In Race1 Molinari preceded Gaglianò and David Locatelli (Tony Kart-Vortex), who had made his mark in the heats. In Race2 it was instead Gaglianò who conquered victory despite the inverted starting grid, with Locatelli in second place just 2 tenths behind. Excellent third finished Switzerland’s Tanja Muller (New Technology/KR-Vortex). Molinari placed sixth. In the championship Gaglianò has risen to the lead with 84 points over Molinari with 75.
Rok Cup Italia.
In the other two double races valid for the Rok Cup Italia, in Mini Rok the two finals were won by Australian Griffin Peebles (AV Racing/Parolin-Vortex) and Filippo Parmeggiani (Racing Kart Dubai/Tony kart-Vortex), while in Super Rok Domenico Cicognini (Flowers Racing/Intrepid-Vortex) prevailed in both finals.
